I decided to put Rocco on Kangaroo as a change from raw and as he has a sensitive stomach. It is an excellent alternative to raw!

It took me a year to find food that suited my dog. After learning about novel proteins, she’s like a new dog – happy, itch-free, with healthy skin and loads of energy. Switching to Happy Dog was the best decision I’ve made.
Novel Proteins
I moved to this after a lot of issues with my dog's tummy – he loves it.
Tummy issues
Mabel has allergies but since she's been on ostrich she's been the best she's been in nearly 2 years.
Allergies
My dog loves the food and it doesn’t make her itch like previous foods we have tried.
Itching relief
So I tried the trial bag first and my itchy Patterdale stopped scratching within two days of being on it full time.
Trial success

Pure Kangaroo is exactly what it says: 100% kangaroo meat and offal, nothing else. Kangaroo is a novel protein almost no UK dog has eaten, which makes it one of the safest choices for dogs with food allergies.
Because the tin contains a single protein and no soy, grain or vegetable additives, it's ideal for elimination diets - and for sensitive dogs that need to know exactly what's in the bowl. Essential vitamins and minerals make it a complete food.

Common questions
Is this really 100% kangaroo?
Yes - our Pure wet range is made with 100% of a single meat, so this recipe contains only kangaroo as its meat content, with vitamins and minerals to make it complete. No soya, no plant-based fillers, and no poultry-derived ingredients. That simplicity is what makes it suitable for sensitive dogs and elimination diets. It may contain traces of other proteins due to the manufacturing process, so for severe allergies check with us first.
My dog is allergic to chicken - can he eat this kangaroo recipe?
Yes - this recipe contains no chicken or any poultry-derived ingredients at all. It is built on kangaroo, a novel protein most dogs have never eaten, so a sensitised immune system is far less likely to recognise and react to it. The full composition is listed on this page - check it against your dog's known allergies, and if you are unsure, send us your dog's allergy list and we will check the recipe for you.
Can I use this for an elimination diet?
Yes - a single novel protein with a short ingredient list is exactly what an elimination diet needs. Feed it exclusively for several weeks: no treats, chews or table scraps during that period, as they make it impossible to tell what is causing any reaction. If symptoms settle, you have strong evidence a previous ingredient was the trigger. Your vet can help structure the reintroduction phase.
My dog is settled on this food but itching more in summer - should I change it?
Probably not. If your dog has been doing well on the food overall - good digestion, settled skin most of the year - summer flare-ups usually point to environmental triggers: pollen, grass, dust mites, seasonal irritation. Changing protein will not fix an environmental allergy, and switching a food that suits your dog risks unsettling what is working. Keep the diet consistent and speak to your vet about managing the seasonal component.
Does the wet food contain any bone content?
Occasionally, yes - small pieces of bone can be found in the wet food, and this is declared on the tin. Although they can feel hard or sharp when you come across one, they have been contained within the moisture of the food for such a long period that they soften compared with dry or cooked bone, and are considered safe for consumption. If you find a piece that concerns you, send us a photo with the batch and date code from the top of the tin and we will look into it with the manufacturer.
